Basic problem is that if the tailgate swings hard all the way open against the stops the stops in the hinges can bend slightly, which will then allow the tailgate to open a bit further and therefore making the stop rod liable to pull out. Overall it's a bad design from the factory. WebMay 31, 2024 · My tailgate bent from a ATV and I removed the top and there was a hole under there so I stuck a ratchet strap in the hole and used my clamps on the deck rail system on the front of the bed and just ratcheted it back into place. It made it straight again but it's not like it was before. It was a free fix but not 100% fix

The wrap two long 4x4's in a blanket or something protective and place them at the top and bottom of the tailgate where the interior and exterior panels come together and either together or separately jump on it. As you pull on the hooks with straps to the tailgate tie downs it will straighten out... leave the angle on and bolt it to the rail and it will stop bending back.
